Program

Helping at-risk kids fall in love with reading.

We work with children in daycare centers to

develop the language, literacy, and communication skills needed to flourish in school and beyond.

Some distinctives of our preschool program:

  • Each child receives individualized and small group instruction.
  • Each family receives resources to build a culture of reading in the home.
  • Last year all the kids who completed the program met the state standards for readiness for 1st grade.

Meeting Kids where they are and helping them grow.

Our After-School Program helps pre-k through 7th grade students grow in their ability to read whether they are ahead or behind their grade level. We read lots of books, play literacy games, and have a lot fun.

Helping kids fill in literacy gaps.

Our Summer Program focuses on identifying literacy gaps and then filling in those gaps. For the last two years, the kids who have completed our summer program averaged half a year’s growth.

We give kids and their families access to good books.

Guided Reading Levels

Our program library is set up by guided reading levels so that each child can find a book that is just right for their reading level.

At Home

Classroom Library

Our classroom libraries contain well illustrated books designed for the age of the class.

See what our parents have to say:

“[My son] was an avid reader, but we started to see him veer off and not being as interested in reading... so within starting the program he has been reading every day and I mean going through books left and right.”

Kelly B.

"... we just moved to the U.S. six months ago. It was really hard [for my daughter] to learn English at first but, ever since she started Book Explorers it has helped her a lot with her English, her reading skills, her speaking skills [and] her vocabulary...I just a lot of improvement in a little time."

Ixtel

"I have a seven year old daughter who is severely dyslexic...[Book Explorers] has helped her to enjoy reading. It’s really been a blessing..."

Why Children’s Literacy?

Children who can read are far more likely:

  • to stay in school
  • to become employed and live above the poverty line
  • to be involved in their children’s lives

Children who can’t read are far more likely:

  • to drop out of school
  • to become incarcerated
  • to live in poverty
